What is Food Addiction?

Food addiction is not a scientific term, because it has not been well studied. Our study is one of the first to examine the opioid system and how it is related to eating behaviors.

The Wikipedia definition of Food Addiciton is:

"Food Addiction, is characterized by an obsessive/compulsive relationship to food. An idividual suffering from compulsive overeating disorder engages in frequent episodes of uncontrolled eating, or binge eating, during which they may feel frenzied or out of control, often consuming food past the point of being comfortably full.

Compulsive eating can affect people of all weights. We think that many women are bothered by at least some aspects of compulsive eating. There are no right or wrong answers to the questions we ask. It's important that you become a scientist of yourself, and notice your own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and answer the questions as honestly as possible. This will help us understand your experiences, which are both personal but likely shared by other women and will help our understanding of the brain, and stress, hormones, and eating (SHE).
